TE Connectivity's New Platform For High Fiber Count Data Center Environments Improves Data Center Agility Through A Complete Managed Density Approach
KESSEL- LO, Belgium - Jan. 27, 2012 - The new High Fiber Count Platform from TE Connectivity is the latest addition to TE Enterprise Networks' range of data center infrastructure solutions. Purpose designed to support patching in high fiber count data center applications, the new system delivers a complete solution to the challenges of high density fiber management. Users achieve long-term efficiencies delivered through a "fullsystem" approach to fiber management encompassing a 19-inch frame and the overhead fiber routing.
At the heart of the High Fiber Count Platform are two new innovative product concepts: the Q-Frame fiber patching frame and the Q3000 fiber panel, complemented by the field proven FiberGuide overhead raceway.
"In the race for density, many alternative products have led users up a dead end when it comes to operating efficiency over the life of a data center", states Alastair Waite, Business Line Manager for data center solutions at TE Enterprise Networks. "By promoting the numbers of ports per rack unit, but neglecting to follow through on the design from a usability perspective, many fiber patching solutions become unusable over time. While promising 'out of the box' capability, subsequent moves, adds and changes and built-in design problems lead to a decay in the neatness of the fiber patching fields. Even worse, some patching solutions are virtually unusable from day one if fully populated with fiber patch cords".
The High Fiber Count platform from TE includes fiber management features that go beyond the traditional fiber frame and that deliver a managed density solution that goes well beyond day one - all with standards-based fiber cables.
The Q-Frame itself is a 19-inch frame purpose designed for fiber incorporating overlength patch-cord storage and logical routing paths for the patch cords, which means that just one standard length of patch cord is required to patch between any and all fiber ports. This greatly simplifies planning and logistics, reducing inventory and helping to maintain the availability of data center services because the right length of cord is always available. It can also help with energy efficiency as it is unique in its capability to allow direct horizontal patching between adjacent bays. This avoids the need for cords to be routed underfloor or in ceilings, saving labour and avoiding the potential the added cabling brings for obstructing cooling airflow, saving energy and money.
The Q3000 fiber panels consist of a chassis in 1, 2 or 4U formats and LC to LC, MPO to MPO and LC to MPO fiber blades. This blade design, long familiar in data-center active electronics, is a new innovation for fiber panels and brings the fiber infrastructure in line with the active equipment. The Q3000 has been designed alongside the Q-Frame to deliver a managed density solution without the requirement for specialist, bend-insensitive cables.
The FiberGuide overhead management raceway has been used worldwide in numerous data centers by enterprise customers and the world's largest carriers, and is recognised as a market leader for features such as its 'snap-fit' junctions enabling toolless installation.
By combining all three of these products, TE offers data center managers a platform for managing fibers in a high fiber count environment that takes a 'whole life' approach to delivering an agile data center. To find out more, visit datacenteragility.com.
